In response to the call for memoranda on electoral reforms by the joint committee of the National Assembly on INEC and Electoral Matters and in preparation for the Public Hearing on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, Raising New Voices has submitted our memoranda presenting our positions to the committee on the various amendments that are required for a more inclusive electoral process.
These propose reforms in our memoranda will guarantee a level playing field for young people interested in putting themselves up for public service. The Memoranda is categorised into four categories. We present first the reforms we believe are of utmost priority and impacts on young people with interest in political leadership and then follow up with other reforms following our intense technical review of the amendments proposed in a bill sponsored by Sen Ovie Omo Agege and co-sponsored by Sen Abubakar Kyari.
The Reform Recommendations of utmost priority focus on the following
- The inclusion of the accreditation of voters through the smart card reader into our laws
- Electronic transmission of vote results from the polling unit.
- Electronic Voting
- Campaign finance reform to limit how much parties can charge aspirants, to monitor campaign expenses, increase fines for spending beyond limit and increase individual donations limit to campaigns.
- Election of delegates in political parties to elect nominees in indirect primaries process
- The timing of all pre-election matters appeal
- The eligibility of members voting and to be elected as delegates in the nomination process
We look forward to our presentation on the 9th of December, 2020 on these recommendations amongst others.

Supported. Had been an advocate of electoral reform. This captures most things needed. We can start with this. Well done.
