Welcome to the New Voices Movement
Our country, Nigeria today has a population estimated at about 200m citizens and is confirmed as the poverty capital of the world with more than 60% of it population living in extreme poverty. This might be a bit difficult as chances are that if you reading this, you probably are living in our big cities or living in the state capitals which makes it difficult to put theses things into perspectives. But if you consider the number of Nigerians in internally Displaced camps IDPs, people who live in the inter-land and in most villages, I am sure you would be better convinced that Nigerians are very poor.
Nigeria has huge potential is something our fore-fathers agreed was correct and our fathers hoped will be realized in their day. We have been nicknamed the giant of Africa for more than 6 decades and yet, we are still very much underdeveloped. We have waited and waited enough for the same old generation to save us and set us on the path of reform and change and freedom. We are not waiting anymore.
In the next 30 years, our population would rise by 100% to 400m. Our coastal states of Lagos, Ogun, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers will begin to lose land due to global warming and rising sea levels. With the way we are going, we would have more than we can chew on in terms of situations to handle like Housing problems, Climate problems, Unemployment, Terrorism, Town planning etc. Our future is entirely in our hands and the decisions we make today will determine that future.
All the things listed above are problems that we should have started solving since independence but we have concerned with less important things such as ethnicity and religion, however, the next best time to start planning for the future is now.
At NewVoices, we are an entirely new generation of Nigerians demanding the Nigeria we want and we are starting with four core issues. As said earlier, we are no longer waiting. Our vision is a Nigeria that is the knowledge and technological capital of the world by 2050, and we must start building that Nigeria from today irrespective of who is in power. How? We are demanding 1. A New Constitution, 2. A Truly Federal Structure, 3. Extensive Justice Reforms, 4. An Open Government, 5. Extensive Electoral Reforms
We will not be stopping at demanding these reforms. In every local government in Nigeria, we are raising leaders (one fellow per LGA) who will focus on community organizing and impact projects so we can build them up into the leaders that we deserve.
Now that you have joined us, you will find our ultimate plan and what we are about through THIS LINK and a more detailed version of the Nigeria we want to see, our vision through THIS LINK. Our nationwide meetings hold once in a month in all states and much more than meetings, we will be hitting the streets enlightening other Nigerians to demand with us these reforms and marching to demand the Nigeria we want. We are no longer waiting.
